# Burgess 2017 high-yield visual psychophysics source data

Subject: Request for Burgess et al. 2017 visual psychophysics trial data

Dear Burgess / Carandini / Harris team,

I am curating behavtaskatlas, an open-science atlas of sensory-guided decision-making tasks and reusable behavioral-model fits.

I am mapping the head-fixed mouse visual contrast wheel-task lineage from:

Burgess CP et al. High-Yield Methods for Accurate Two-Alternative Visual Psychophysics in Head-Fixed Mice. Cell Reports, 2017.

I could not find a dedicated public trial-level archive for the behavioral sessions behind the methods-paper figures. If these data are available, would you be willing to share them or point me to the preferred public successor dataset? The fields of interest are mouse id, session id, trial index, left/right contrast, choice, no-go outcome where applicable, correctness/reward outcome, and response time.

The goal is to preserve the operational distinctions between forced wheel 2AFC, unforced/no-go variants, and later IBL/Steinmetz implementations.

Thank you,
behavtaskatlas curator

## Requested Files

- `Burgess2017_trial_level_behavior` (required): Per-trial behavioral data for forced 2AFC and two-alternative unforced wheel sessions, including contrasts, choices, no-go outcomes, correctness, reward outcomes, and response times.
- `Burgess2017_session_metadata` (optional): Subject/session metadata needed to reproduce learning, threshold, no-go, and inactivation analyses.

## Purpose

Recover the methods-paper behavioral source data for forced and unforced head-fixed wheel visual psychophysics, if it is not already superseded by later public Steinmetz and IBL releases.

## Blocker

The open Cell Reports/PMC article describes the wheel task and analyses, but this pass did not identify a dedicated public repository for the per-trial behavioral data behind the methods paper figures.

## Affected Atlas Records

### Papers

- `paper.burgess-2017-high-yield-visual-psychophysics` - Burgess CP, Lak A, Steinmetz NA, Zatka-Haas P, Bai Reddy C, Jacobs EAK, Linden JF, Paton JJ, Ranson A, Schroder S, Soares S, Wells MJ, Wool LE, Harris KD, Carandini M

### Protocols

- `protocol.mouse-visual-contrast-wheel-unbiased`
- `protocol.mouse-unforced-visual-contrast-wheel`

## Provenance Checks

- article data availability: The PMC article gives the task, DOI, and methods details, but this pass did not find a dedicated data-availability statement or public source archive for the methods-paper behavioral tables. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5603732/
- public archive check: Targeted searches for the paper title, DOI, Figshare, and data-archive terms did not identify a reusable Burgess-specific trial-level archive.

## License And Redistribution Question

Please confirm whether behavtaskatlas may redistribute derived canonical trial tables and aggregate model-fit outputs produced from the shared files. If raw files cannot be redistributed, the atlas can keep them outside git and publish only provenance, field mapping, validation checks, and allowed aggregate summaries.

## Status Handoff

After sending this request, update the source `data_request` record from `ready_to_send` to `requested` and add an event with `event_type: sent`, the send date, actor, and evidence URL/path. Repository validation requires that event before accepting the `requested` status.
