Subject: Request for Busse et al. 2011 mouse visual contrast trial data

Dear Busse / Carandini team,

I am curating behavtaskatlas, an open-science atlas of sensory-guided decision-making tasks and reusable behavioral-model fits.

I am working on the classic mouse visual contrast 2AFC task from:

Busse L et al. The detection of visual contrast in the behaving mouse. Journal of Neuroscience, 2011.

I could not find a public trial-level archive for the behavioral sessions. Would you be willing to share analyzed trial-level behavioral data, or point me to a current public location? The fields of interest are mouse id, session id, trial index, signed contrast/stimulus side, chosen port, correctness/reward outcome, and response time where available.

The goal is to build a provenance-preserving trial-level harmonizer and compare port-based contrast psychometrics and history effects against later head-fixed wheel visual contrast tasks. I would also observe any redistribution limits you specify for derived canonical trial tables and aggregate model-fit outputs.

Thank you,
behavtaskatlas curator

## Requested Files

- `Busse2011_trial_level_behavior` (required): Per-trial behavioral table or source files with mouse id, session id, trial index, signed contrast, stimulus side, chosen port, correctness, reward/error outcome, and response time if available.
- `Busse2011_session_metadata` (required): Session-level metadata needed to reproduce psychometric threshold, bias, and history-effect analyses.

## Purpose

Recover the classic freely moving mouse visual contrast 2AFC port-task data so behavtaskatlas can compare port-based psychometrics, side bias, and recent reward/history effects against head-fixed wheel contrast tasks.

## Blocker

The paper and PubMed/PMC metadata identify the task and figures, but this source-availability pass did not identify a public repository containing reusable trial-level choices, contrasts, session identifiers, or response times for the 12 mice.

## Affected Atlas Records

### Papers

- `paper.busse-2011-detection-visual-contrast` - Busse L, Ayaz A, Dhruv NT, Katzner S, Saleem AB, Scholvinck ML, Zaharia AD, Carandini M

### Protocols

- `protocol.mouse-visual-contrast-port-2afc`

## Provenance Checks

- article data availability: PubMed records the paper, DOI, PMCID, task summary, and figure captions, but no public trial-level data archive was identified from that record. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/21813694/
- public archive check: Targeted searches for the paper title, DOI, and public data/archive terms did not identify reusable behavioral source files during this pass.

## License And Redistribution Question

Please confirm whether behavtaskatlas may redistribute derived canonical trial tables and aggregate model-fit outputs produced from the shared files. If raw files cannot be redistributed, the atlas can keep them outside git and publish only provenance, field mapping, validation checks, and allowed aggregate summaries.

## Status Handoff

After sending this request, update the source `data_request` record from `ready_to_send` to `requested` and add an event with `event_type: sent`, the send date, actor, and evidence URL/path. Repository validation requires that event before accepting the `requested` status.
