# Lak 2020 mouse visual contrast wheel behavior and value-block data

Subject: Request for Lak et al. 2020 mouse visual contrast trial data

Dear Lak / Carandini / Harris / Kepecs team,

I am curating behavtaskatlas, an open-science atlas of sensory-guided decision-making tasks and reusable behavioral-model fits.

I am mapping mouse visual contrast wheel-task variants in:

Lak A et al. Reinforcement biases subsequent perceptual decisions when confidence is low. eLife, 2020.
Lak A et al. Dopaminergic and prefrontal basis of learning from sensory confidence and reward value. Neuron, 2020.

I could not find public mouse visual trial-level behavioral files for these analyses. Would you be willing to share analyzed behavioral tables, or point me to their current public location? The fields of interest are mouse id, session id, trial index, contrast, stimulus side, choice, correctness/reward outcome, response time, previous-trial variables, and for the Neuron task the reward-value block or reward magnitude variables.

The immediate goal is behavior-first: preserve contrast, reward value, choice history, and inferred confidence as separate variables before any neural joins. I would also observe any redistribution constraints you specify for derived canonical trial tables and aggregate model-fit outputs.

Thank you,
behavtaskatlas curator

## Requested Files

- `Lak2020_eLife_mouse_visual_behavior` (required): Trial-level mouse visual 2AFC data from the eLife reinforcement-biases paper: mouse/session/trial ids, contrast, stimulus side, choice, correctness, reward/error outcome, previous-trial variables, and response time if available.
- `Lak2020_Neuron_reward_value_behavior` (required): Trial-level reward-value block visual contrast data from the Neuron paper: contrast, stimulus side, choice, reward magnitude/value block, outcome, response timing, and session metadata.
- `Lak2020_Neuron_neural_summary_tables` (optional): Optional neural or model-summary tables sufficient to align behavior with dopamine/prefrontal analyses after the behavior-first adapter exists.

## Purpose

Recover mouse visual contrast wheel-task data for reward-history and reward-value analyses, enabling behavtaskatlas to model contrast, choice history, reward value, and inferred confidence as separable variables.

## Blocker

The eLife paper makes the mouse visual 2AFC task explicit but its public data-availability text surfaced only a human Figshare dataset in this pass. The Neuron paper's data-availability statement says datasets were not deposited publicly because of large file size and are available from the corresponding author on request.

## Affected Atlas Records

### Papers

- `paper.lak-2020-reinforcement-biases-confidence` - Lak A, Hueske E, Hirokawa J, Masset P, Ott T, Urai AE, Donner TH, Carandini M, Tonegawa S, Uchida N, Kepecs A
- `paper.lak-2020-dopaminergic-prefrontal` - Lak A, Okun M, Moss MM, Gurnani H, Farrell K, Wells MJ, Bai Reddy C, Kepecs A, Harris KD, Carandini M

### Protocols

- `protocol.mouse-visual-contrast-wheel-unbiased`
- `protocol.mouse-visual-contrast-wheel-value-blocks`

## Provenance Checks

- article data availability: The Neuron paper states the datasets were not deposited publicly because of large file size but are available from the corresponding author on request. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7031700/
- article data availability: The eLife paper describes the mouse visual 2AFC task; the data-availability text identified during this pass surfaced a human Figshare dataset but no public mouse visual behavior archive. https://elifesciences.org/articles/49834
- public archive check: Targeted searches for Lak 2020 visual contrast source data, Figshare, and GitHub terms did not identify a reusable mouse visual trial-level archive.

## License And Redistribution Question

Please confirm whether behavtaskatlas may redistribute derived canonical trial tables and aggregate model-fit outputs produced from the shared files. If raw files cannot be redistributed, the atlas can keep them outside git and publish only provenance, field mapping, validation checks, and allowed aggregate summaries.

## Status Handoff

After sending this request, update the source `data_request` record from `ready_to_send` to `requested` and add an event with `event_type: sent`, the send date, actor, and evidence URL/path. Repository validation requires that event before accepting the `requested` status.
