IBL Neuropixels Brainwide Map 2025

Public IBL brain-wide Neuropixels release from mice performing the standardized visual decision-making task, including behavioral trials, wheel movement, video-derived variables, spike sorting, and histology metadata across many laboratories.

Access notes

Access through the IBL ONE API or the public AWS bucket. The existing IBL behavior adapter now serves as the behavior-first slice, pinning the Brainwide Map ONE project and `Brainwidemap` release tag in provenance. Neural extensions should distinguish task trials, ephys sessions, probe insertions, and quality-control filters.

Data formats

  • IBL ALF objects
  • ONE API datasets
  • AWS S3 public bucket
  • NumPy and Parquet-style processed arrays

Expected trial-table mapping

Canonical fields the harmonizer expects this dataset to populate.

Canonical field Source mapping
choice IBL choice code mapped to left, right, or no-response.
correct feedbackType mapped to boolean correctness.
evidence_strength Absolute signed contrast.
feedback reward or error from feedbackType and rewardVolume.
prior_context probabilityLeft block value.
response_time First wheel movement or response time relative to stimulus onset, with origin recorded.
session_id IBL eid for the brainwide-map session.
stimulus_side Source side among left, right, or zero-contrast assigned side.
stimulus_value Signed contrast; contrastRight positive and contrastLeft negative.
subject_id IBL subject identifier.
task_variables wheel movement, go cue, stimulus onset, feedback time, block probability, video-derived motion energy or pupil fields where present, probe insertion ids, brain regions, and release/QC labels.
trial_index Trial number within session.

Caveats

  • The behavior-first slice pins the Brainwidemap release tag, but ephys QC and neural inclusion filters remain deferred.
  • The existing IBL behavior dataset already covers related task behavior, so comparisons must avoid double-counting sessions when both records are used.
